Yes. The Missing Middle Housing Initiative will increase the supply and variety of housing in Victoria. The questions we should ask however are

  1. How much densification does the city of Victoria want?
  2. Should the decision as to where middle housing goes be up to developers or residents?
  3. Who will buy this housing? Families who live here, or families who move here?

The Missing Middle Housing Initiative does not address any of the five factors required to support a “car-lite” city. In its current form, the MMHI appears to only be concerned with removing barriers for developers which will enable them to build multi-unit housing in place of single-family housing without the inconvenience of having to consult impacted neighbours.
